Our Mission Statement
The Follicles First Movement was first established in May of 2021 as a response to the conversations surrounding the hair of black women.
We believe that black women should be allowed to freely wear their hair in any style they wish without persecution. Whether heat trained, relaxed, natural, weaved or under a wig, black women should be allowed to wear any style provided that their natural hair continues to prosper in that style.
Black women should never be demonized for choosing to wear one hairstyle over another provided that their edges are still intact, and their hair is showing progress in growth and health.
We encourage black women to give the hair growing directly from their follicles (no matter what state it is in) more care, time, and energy than their wigs and weaves.
We also encourage black women to give the hair that has grown on their heads the best treatments and leave the sub-par treatments for the wigs and the hair extensions.
The Follicles First Movement encourages black women of all ages to find a hairstyle that fits their lifestyle, and to not be ashamed of it.
